Britta Ann Wright
Submitter: Rebecca Moon

She is known to our family only as "Aunt Britann." She was a slave who belonged to Hiram Thornton of Pettis Co., MO. She continued to work for the Thornton family for many years after the Civil War. My great-great grandmother, Mattie Thornton, kept this photo because she remembered "Aunt Britann" with great affection. I believe it was taken in Missouri. I am also attaching a photo of a quilt which was made by "Aunt Britann" and Mattie Thornton.
